And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”
Genesis 15:5 (ESV)
The life of Abraham inspires us all. It shows us how the faith of a simple man can make a tremendous difference. When I talk to people, I often notice they need a clearer vision of what the Lord wants to do. Some think God can’t use them, while others believe they will only accomplish small things no matter how hard they try.
But Abraham’s life inspires us, and in this blog, we’ll learn a few lessons that will help us believe in what God wants to do in our lives.
1. God Does Not Look at Our Past
Abraham did not come from a God-fearing family or an upright culture, yet the Lord still called him. Many people think their past mistakes disqualify them from doing God’s work. However, the only thing the Lord requires is a willing heart. I believe God wants to use many people. Stop looking at your past and fix your eyes on Jesus and what He can do in your life.
2. Obedience Is the First Step
“Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.’”
Genesis 12:1 (ESV)
The first step toward God’s promise is obedience. The Lord desires to bless us in all things, but often, we cling to our circumstances or prefer the illusions this world offers rather than walking with Him.
I know the Lord has spoken to many, just as He did with Abraham, to leave places, cut ties, and move away from old ways of living. Remember, obedience comes with a promise. If you obey, a land is already prepared for you.
3. Understand That the Promise Is Also for You
“And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.”
Genesis 12:2 (ESV)
A promise from God changes everything. Abraham was just a man, but the Lord called him, blessed him, and multiplied him. God raised him to be the father of faith, and his legacy blesses many even today. All of this happened because of the power of a promise.
I encourage you to remember the promise God has given you and make it your own! Your life is not insignificant because God’s promise is for you. Don’t walk as though you have nothing because a promise is everything.
Hold on, declare it daily, and align your life to move toward it.
